99-44/100% Pure®

Those of you old enough to know what the above title refers too, should be wise enough to know that 99-44% is as close to 100% as it gets. For those too young, it’s what Ivory Soap says about their soap and why it floats.

Well, let me tell you that 100% of chiropractic charts & bills will be audited in 2010 and 2011. There is no chance that you can float above the process. This is not my opinion, it is the opinion of an excellent teacher I had last weekend at a post-graduate course on record keeping. Yes, I had to take the class to keep my license, but I am glad that I did for did reminded me of what I need to do to tighten up my record keeping process, even after 31 years of practice.

The bottom line is that all of our billing is always audited by computers. It’s when they send in the “sharks” to physically read your charts it will be hard to surface unless you have pristine records that are legible, complete and compliant.

Over the next few months I will be using this space to give you my opinions on how to improve your record keeping. This will not prevent an audit, for nothing can prevent one. It will help you get through the audit without having to refund any money back to the insurance companies. I cannot guarantee that you will get audited or that you won’t have to give any money back, but what I can guarantee is the if you follow my advice you will not only sleep better at night, you will evolve into the practitioner that we must all must in order to continue to practice into the next decade.

WARNING if you are using a travel card, you probably will not pass scrutiny, travel cards are so 80’s.
