Hiring Employees

Have you ever hired the wrong person for the job? Sure you have; what did it cost you? If you think it cost you the wages of the bad hire you are wrong. It cost you their wages, the loss of income from the mistakes they made, the decrease in office moral, the cost of hiring a new hire and the cost of training that new hire.
Have you ever hired the right person for the job? What was your gain….expediential? Once you trained the right hire you profited from their efforts for the life of their employ.
My third and last question is how can you have hired both a good and bad employee? In my opinion the answer is luck. I want to teach you how to change luck to a process that will increase your percentage of successful hires.
The process is unemotional and factual, nothing like a Chiropractor. As a profession we are free spirited, highly emotional and view people in a positive light. I have asked countless Chiropractors why they hired a certain person and the number one answer is
“he/she seemed like a really nice person”. It is not that nice doesn’t matter. It is that nice is one of many characteristics that an employer looks for in a hire.
There is a methodology to hire the right person for the right position for your practice. I learned the hard way by hiring many poor hires, costing me in time, energy and money. In the past, I co-owned 10 practices, six at one time employing over forty people; that was my motivation to improve my ability to improve my hiring. I then sat with a friend, a Human Resource executive for a global Wall Street investment firm that hires investment bankers that can produce or loose millions of dollars for the firm. She gave me theory, concepts and employee testing methods for hiring the right person. I took these tools and adapted them to Chiropractic. I have put this information together and have compiled a “How to Hire Handbook for the Health Professional”
Here is a hiring tip for all future employees. Ask the potential hire for the ability to run a credit report on them. You must have their social security number and past and present address. If you want to really know about someone, look into their financial history. For about $30 you will absolutely know how responsible they are.
For the past eight years I have been consulting the profession on a variety of specialty consults like “How to Hire an Associate” in addition to supplying Associate and Buy/Sell Agreements, Practice Appraisals and Marketing the Practice For Sale. These consults are further presented on my web site www.DavidFosterDC.com in addition to many published articles that will offer insight through experience. In early 2010 I will launch www.BackOfficeConsults.com , specialty consults for the health car professional. We have expanded our “How to Hire an Associate” to How to Hire a CA, insurance processor and Physical Therapist.
